Fashion Week

The clothes. THEY ARE AMAZING. The contrast between the tans and browns of the sand and dirt and the vibrant colors of their cloth is stunning.  Pictures just don’t do it justice but here are a few of the designs that I have captured this week.

On our first night in Diass, we attended a fashion show of local designers organized by the association of dress makers. I think that has been one of my favorite experiences so far. The clothes were beautiful and the entire village full of excitement.

Most people in Senegal have a personal tailor that makes their clothes. Our host teacher, Moustapha, is having traditional Senegalese outfits made for us, so we have visited a men’s tailor and a women’s tailor. We even went to the fabric shop to pick out material.

Today we picked up our clothes from the tailors and it is tradition to dress up on Fridays at school, so we will get to wear them to school tomorrow. We will also be wearing traditional outfits to a dinner this weekend. More pictures of that to come!
